We are always looking for people interested in joining the Polson Rural Fire District. Being a volunteer department, we understand that everyone has jobs, family, and other obligations. That makes it all the more important to have a wide range of volunteers who are able to respond when they can. We have positions for all types of people from someone who wants to be a structural or wildland Firefighter to apparatus drivers. It is a commitment, but a very rewarding one that puts you in a spot to help protect the community you live in!
Being a Firefighter puts you in the middle of emergency situations, which carries a certain level of inherent risk. We provide extensive training to all of our Firefighters to ensure not only the Firefighters safety, but also that of everyone around them. We meet to train 3 times a month on the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Tuesday of the month in the evenings. In order to remain active, we require each Firefighter to attend a minimum of 12 scheduled Tuesday trainings a year as well as have a minimum of 30 training hours.
The Polson Rural Fire District responds to an average of 300 calls per year. Some calls are handled by the single closest Fire Station, while other "all calls" require a full department response. We encourage our Volunteers to respond whenever they are available, however we do understand job and family obligations. We require that each firefighter respond to a minimum of 20% of the runs for their station.
Polson Rural Fire District also offers a Junior Firefighter program for teens age 16 to 18 who have an interest in the fire service. Please contact us for more information.
If you are interested in joining, feel free to come to any of our upcoming trainings and see what its about or contact our Fire Chief at 406-883-4244.
